Started piano lessons at age 10, so i've been playing over 30 years
What was the first concert you ever went to?
Doobie Brothers, with a friend of mine. Memorable because it was my first concert. I was hooked on live music from that point on.
What gear do you use?
I used to be 100% virtual instruments (vst's) for live shows, but I've incorporated Nords into the lineup for both live shows and my studio work. Most gigs I play a Nord Stage 2 HA88, Nord Stage Classic (compact), and a Nord C2. I'll also include my laptop for gigs that require more electronics - synths, sequencing, master clock and click track, etc... More details can be found at my website: http://www.thomasbuckley.com/About.aspx
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Rick Davies from Supertramp. Even though he's best known for the Wurlitzer sound, his use of piano in rock mezmerized me. A key part of my sound is a powerful grand piano because of him.
Nowadays, I listen a lot to Chris Martin, and dream of playing a Yamaha GT20 on stage like Chris - seeing those hammers bouncing around is the coolest thing ever. Buut midi it to my rig of course.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
Yes, lots of bands and projects. I have everything listed on my website, but always doing new things here in Milwaukee and SE Wisconsin.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Stevie Ray Vaughan. I always like playing piano with great guitar players. SRV was my favorite (RIP).
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
Working with a legends tribute band, I travel around the eastern half of the USA playing to tens of thousands of people annually. Our largest show is about 2,500 people.
