Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
I pick up something from a lot a great drummers.....Max Roach, Philly Joe Jones, Roy Haynes and Elvin Jones were my main influences in Jazz drumming. But also Buddy Rich, Steve Gadd, Bobby Colomby, Bill Bruford, Peter Erskine, Omar Hakim, John Bonham, Bernard Purdie, Jack De Johnette, Tony Williams, Gene Krupa, Tullio De Piscopo and others influenced my playing in many ways.
I prefer drummers that add that something fresh to MUSIC, being groovy but not too predictable in comping, and creative in solos.
I don't like exaggerations of any kind in music .
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
In many years of musical life, playing with a lot of bands and soloists, I did about 150 CD as sideman ( 20 of them with pianist Renato Sellani, 8 in trio with Franco D’Andrea and 5 with Lee Konitz, label “Philology”) and -as leader- “Quasi Sera” (2000 , with P.Di Sabatino, F.Bosso, Micarelli, Garofoli, Innarella, Morganti, Bulgarelli) and “Identità” (2007 with D. Liebman, Dulbecco, Dalla Porta) both for "Wide". I also played and/or recorded with: Wheeler, Metheny, Gomez, Woods, Fresu, Tchicai, Urbani, Tommaso, Werner, Cohn, Rava, Rea, Farlow, Van Damme, Golson, Basso, Moriconi, Cerri, Salis, Fewell, Giammarco, Fariselli, Lama, Fassi, Boltro, Mancinelli, Tavolazzi, Di Modugno, Tracanna, Clemente, Petretti, Morgera, Bergonzi, Moroni,
