Maybe I became a musician the first time I saw Whitney Houston in The Bodyguard at 5 years old. Maybe it was singing into a hairbrush in front of a packed crowd of my stuffed animals at 7. Got a guitar at 14, the rest was history.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Like I said previously, Whitney Houston was huge for me vocally. As was Mariah Carey. There was something about the emotion portrayed in every note that I just couldn't get over.
Lyrically Lauryn Hill and Tracy Chapman slayed my soul. From there the spectrum just got wider and wider as I got older.
Discovering the band Copeland in high school was huge.
