Dwayne Chelini - Vocals
How long have you been playing?
I started singing at 5 years old,and loved to sing everyday from then on.I took singing lessons when i was 8,from Mrs Burney from Santa Rosa Ca.Great teacher and a beautiful person. She saw something im me,and signed me up for a musical play of the 7 dwarfs...I landed the part of Dopey..:D...But i was young and shy and did not see this as a great oppurtunity..Duh..so i dropped out.I continued to sing in my room and tried to start a band in 4th grade.I was in to drums at this time too.So i begged my parents for a drum set.And that Christmas they got me a Sears paper drum set..Haha...it worked, but the sound was terrible...not real. The band never went anywhere,so i continued on with the singing, and destroying the paper drum set.I finall recieved my first guitar when i was 18.And that was a Hohner Aucostic. And so my guitar history started in 1978,and still rockin today.I love the guitar,it makes me feel real good.So i play from pure feelings.I cannot read a lick of music.I just go with the flow.I am not really into copying other artist.I have learned to just jam and come up with your own sound and technique.but i do love to learn from all these fantastic players out there,so i take from everyone little things that i think sound cool. And then turn it into music of my own. I also took guitar lessons from Alex Bendahan in SF...at the time he had his own band called Alex Guiness and the World Records....I wanted to learn songs ...and Alex told me that was fine but i should learn scaales and theroy..then the songs will just flow out of you...he was right and got me headin in the right direction I also loved going to all his live shows...he ia a great guitarist and Singer songwriter...I also learned a lot from Tom Kolb(musician Institute teacher LA)...Just working with him in SF and being his roadie at a a couple of gigs at the Stone In SF...Very great Guitarist..Tom taught me a lot of ins and outs of the music buisness. Thanks for your time..live,laugh,love,life...peace out....:D
What was the first concert you ever went to?
Kiss and Bob Seger Oakland Ca..1976...Awesome Show!!!
What gear do you use?
(favorite piece)..Ibanez Custom w/EMGs,Schecter Hell Raiser w/EMGs,Epiphone Les Paul Custom Zak Wylde,w/EMGs ,Esp Ltd MH-400,w/EMGs,Aria Pro Knight Warrior ,Gibson Mauader,Ibanez Ex series Bass and a Martin DCX1KE Acoustic.
What are you looking for from Fandalism?
2 tickets to Paradise....:D
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Jaming with my Uncle Tim Chapin. He would come over to our house when i was young and play everything from the Beatles to Stones. He would play the guitar and i would sing.He was a great influence on my music.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
Not in a band right now.Ive jamed with many people, but only 1 band.I met these 2 guys that were doing stone work in our neighborhood. When they were doing our house, they heard me playin and asked if we could form a group.we jammed for a while, but egos got in the way...The Bass player Tom played with The Michael Spears Band from Sonoma County Area..It was a lot of fun....I also jammed with the Bass player from the Mighty groove. He is an excellent bassist, and we play great together..Jim Cervantes from S.F. California
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Im thinkin Steve Vai.Because he has a great love for the instrument..you can hear it in his playing...He plays with fire and pure Emotion, and shows it....No Ego,just pure love for playin music....:D
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
2 is the largest crowd..my bedroom....Jaming with Jim Cervantes on bass..
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
Tenacious D...Because the album rocks and makes you laugh too...When it first came out i bought it..It is a very good album...humor,metal and music....great combo man!!!...:D
