How long have you been playing?
I have been playing drums since 1982.Me & my best friend decided to learn a bunch of songs by Iron Maiden & Judas Priest,so we did. I started when i was 12 years old. I had taken "BAND" classes all through high school, learned how to read drum sheets & been playing ever since. I prefer to play ROCK music, that is where my passion is,BUT i can play country, blues, etc.I played in rock bands, amateur hour bands,pit-bands for plays, memorial services(snare drum work),etc. I will play anything because I LOVE TO PLAY!!!
What was the first concert you ever went to?
WOW,can't remember the year but the very 1st concert that i attended was "Honeymoon Suite" at The North Sydney Form I Cape Breton,Nova Scotia.I went with my cousins & since it was my very 1st live convert EVERYTHING was memorable from it.Being a drummer i watched every move there drummer made behind his kit....it was AWESOME!!!
What gear do you use?
I used to have a very big drum kit,it consisted of a Dixon Drum Cage,a 5 piece set of Tama Imperial Stars,2 Pearl concert toms, a 16 & 18 inch Roto-Toms,2 Simmons electric drums,a set of windchimes,a tamberine,3 different size cowbells,a set of 14 inch Zildjian Rock-Hats,a 14 inch Zildjian rock crash,a 16 inch Zildjian rock crash,a 18 inch Sabian rock crash,a 22 inch Zildjian ride,a 22 inch Sabian China-type splash, leather stickbag, and all the travelling-road cases. As of now i am just starting to rebuild my kit. I currently have a 5 piece set of DW Drums,a set of 14 inch Zildjian Rock Hats,a set f 14 inch Sabian Hi-Hats,a 14 inch Sabian crash,& i just purchased "The Duallist" triple beater foot pedal.....and i'm not even close to being finished of what i am going to add!!
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
My biggest influence growing up would have to be Neil Peart from Rush,Alex Van Halen from Van Halen,Stewart Copeland from the Ploice,Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden & Tommy Lee from Motley Crue(not necessarily in that order). I got into them because i loved their music & their different drumming styles. I used to put their albums on my stereo & play along to the whole album.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
I am not currently in a band right now. I used to be in a variety of different bands. I was in rock bans,i filled in for drummers in country bands,i played in amateur hour bands,i played in school bands,i played in "Pit Bands",i substituted for different drummers playing pretty much anything. I prefer to play ROCK MUSIC.I've played in bars,on stages in front of large crowds, outside on the flat-deck of an 18 wheeler, etc.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Right now,if i had the chance to get up & play a song with a band of my choice it would have to be "JUDAS PRIEST" because they are my favorite band of all time!!
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
If i remember correctly, the biggest crowd i've performed in front of would be around 5000 people in North Sydney during their "Bar Town Days" activities. The smallest would probably be around 40-60 people in a bar.One of my most memorable performances was one night while performing in this bar our lighting technician decided to turn on the dry-ice machine to get a nice visual effect during the song we were performing.(I think it was "Comfortably Numb") He decided to be funny and held the button down on the fog machine until there was that much fog on the stage i couldn't see the audience,i couldn't see my bandmates, hell,i couldn't even see my drums....i was gasping for air,it was choking me.....BUT i never missed a beat so the joke was on him.....LOL
