Staffan Fenander - Guitar
How long have you been playing?
Started playing guitar 1963, inspired by The Shadows and the Spotnicks...moved on quickly to Beatles, Stones and american folk, Dylan etc.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
The Spotnicks in 1963, great !
What gear do you use?
Loads...my Yairi is the greatest friend I have...Handbuilt in Japan in 1984. For slide i use a Swedish Levin ( great guitars!) from 1948. I also have a large Landola with pickups and a nylonstringed guitar. For electric mainly Tele and Stratocaster but also an Ibanez jazzguitar and a few others...For electric amplification I have my trusty Fender Super Reverb...but it´s getting heavier and heavier to carry around so a little tube Peavey is good for jams and travelling. Harmonica all kinds but favourites are Marine Band and Hohner Special. I dabble around on all kinds of acoustic instruments and also play a lot of drums in jamsituations...it´s good for the rhythm sense!
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
So many...Beatles , Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Buffy Sainte Marie,John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Big Joe Williams and loads of other blues...Duke Ellington ( my man! ) , Miles Davis, Charles Lloyd and hundreds of other jazzartists... lots of bluegrass and old time country and folk, Peter Rowan, Jerry Garcia etc.! Dead, Country Joe, Airplane, cream ...you name them!
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
Been in and out of 7-8 bands.. rock, blues and jazz
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Neil Young and Geoff Muldaur...because they´re great electric and acoustic guitarists and sing really well too!
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
From a couple of thousand to a few! Size is not important! Busked on the streets of Rome and Montreal...that was a large audience!
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
Impossible question but possibly Kind of Blue with Miles Davis... good music to dream to and long for rescue!
