I was 12 when I first started playing drums. I was taking classical piano lessons but after the required 30 minutes practice, I would go to my cellar, turn on the radio, and play on the garbage cans using the lids for cymbols hung from the flooring rafters above me and practice for 2 to 3 hours every day. It was obviously my passion. Eventually my parents bought me an inexpensive drum set for Christmas. The deal was they made the down payment and I had to make the monthly payment until they were paid for. I had two paper routes and was able to make the payments.
