I collect guitars, have Jackson (Dinky Strat 1/300, PC1), Brian Moore (if9), Ibanez (Egen18, S5470 Prestige), PRS (Cust24 1/200), Takamine (96Ltd, EG128SC) and a fewYamaha guitars. I use two custom built J Le Roux 100 W heads and matching 2x12 cabs. All sorts and makes of effects.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
The 70's rock guru's ie Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Sabbath, Cream, Queen, etc had a huge influence. Growing up in South Africa we never got to see them live, radio and LP's had to do.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
I have been in and out of bands all my life. During the 80's I played mostly top40's with bands like China White, Rapscallion, Panama and an 11 year stint with Shaft. The '90's/ early 2000's were original rock: Simpliciti, Glaze and Atmosphere Control Unit (ACU). 2008 saw the birth of my solo and current band, St.J. Prophesy Project. The first album entitled Beginnings was launched in April 2009 and I am currently working on my second album. The stuff is a blend of Jazz/ Blues and Prog Rock. I perform live in Saudi Arabia where I currently live and in South Africa, my country of birth. Would love to go on a world tour!!!
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Joe Satriani - G3 setup. Would make for an explosive combination and be grand to share a stage with fellow guitar greats. Are you listening Satch? ;)
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
Biggest probably around 3000+, smallest a few guys in a pub. Playing Arcadia (huge counter culture festivals that took place in ZA a few years ago) wirh ACU three times was most memorable. That said, opening for the Awakening and afterwards overhearing a comment that they should've played first makes the former a close call for second, we rocked!!!
