I was 10 when my parents enrolled me in my first guitar lessons. Initially, Mom inspired me. She's been playing rhythm guitar and singing since she was 16.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
Jars of Clay with PFR!!! With few close friends from my 5th grade class, and even my 5th grade teacher, Ms. Kays. I remember seeing people crowd surf for the first time, and REALLY wishing i was big enough to do that. Lord knows i've taken advantage of several opportunities to crowd surfed and loved every single person that i kicked through the 'wave.' haha..
What gear do you use?
a blue Johnson acoustic and a Fender Squire Jagmaster. in need of good amp and loop pedal.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
The Cranberries- i remember singing along to the lyrics printed in the tape case cover and thinking, 'dang, she can sing low.' i couldn't sing that low then, but a couple weeks later, i could! haha.. i heard 'Zombie' and 'Linger' on the radio and loved their sound immediately. Zombie was the first 'cool' song that i ever learned on the guitar. I brought my Yamaha Pacifica electric and amp to an end-of-the-school-year class party and played it for everyone. Yeah, didn't sing, just played those chords over n over n over n over again. haha..
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
Not currently! I really really would like to find a woman drummer/DJ/percussionist/multi-instrumentalist/singer/rapper who loves Jesus as much or more than i do! I know they exist and will partner with me in divine time! I played bass for Kristin Astourian and her sisters' band, Witherless. They were friends from church. I played one show with them, and then they kicked me out due to peer pressure from mutual church friends that thought that I didn't deserve to play with them because I was in a relationship with a woman at the time. Ouch, not fun! I played rhythm guitar and sang for Stephanie Williams, Megan Chapman, and another chick in a band to enter in a Battle of the Bands at Blue Springs High School in '05(?). I had a theater class with Stephanie Williams in '04. Love that woman! In 2007, i sang for a project band called Interpreter. It was like ambient jazz fusion weird. We never got to play a show- sad, but we did record some which was fun. I sang in the Revolution church worship band for a few months, end of '09. I will be singing and playing soon with the c3 worship band.
