Started playing guitar when I was 10 years old, mom taught me to play a song on one of my dads guitars. Got my own guitar that same year...
What gear do you use?
My favorite instrument is an old 1956 Martin guitar that belonged to my dad most of my life, he left it to me when he died from cancer in 1979, so I suppose I have had it Most of my life. I also have a few other instruments. a P-Bass i like a lot and a few electric guitars and a yamaha keyboard, at home, in my bedroom I use Carvin pro sound 15's and a Randall RH200 guitar amp.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
There was SO much great music back then, but probably I would have to say my main influence as far as learning to play guitar was "The Ventures" because when I was 12 years old I found the album "Play Along With the Ventures" that taught you to play their songs and got to learn songs like Pipeline, Wipeout and all their great sounding music, it felt So good to be able to learn to play those.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
I am not presently in a band but have been in several since my first band when i was 16, and it is now at this time in my life, my main goal in life is to start or join a band soon and play some original music, I have been blessed to have several friends around the country that play music and even a few well known ones, and maybe even i can be lucky enough to start a band with one or more of them.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
My father or my brother probably, since they have been dead so many years and I would love to hear them play again and be able to jam with them.
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
My most memorable performance was when i was 17 probably had a couple drinks too many, someone jumped up and touched my foot from the audience, I leaned over to see and fell off the stage, landed on a big Peavey speaker in front -side of the stage...
I held the guitar out in front of me as I was falling, so, I headbutted the guitar when it hit on top of the speaker cabinet, it broke in two and slapped me on both ears and then I toppled on over into the crowd, a policeman had to open a door and let me back on stage where I got another guitar and the show must go on!!!
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
Probably one that was very entertaining to look at since I would have no electricity or batteries to play it with, but maybe I could use the reflective side to signal ships or planes with sunlight, or maybe better yet, the old Cheech and Chong vinyl album that had the giant rolling paper inside, I could use it to send a message in a bottle!
