How long have you been playing?
I'm 35 and I've loved music for as long as I can remember. I started playing guitar when I was 11.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
My first concert was Metallica's black album tour when I was 14. I went with my buddy Scott and his uncle. That was before I lost all my respect for that band =P
What gear do you use?
I have 2 Ibanez classical accoustic guitars, a BC Rich Jr. V electric and an Ibanez soundgear bass guitar. I also have a "sweet potato" style Ocarina and a few harmonicas. I have an older Yamaha keyboard too. My newest accoustic or my BC rich are my favorites, depends what kind of mood I'm in.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Iron Maiden for sure. The dual guitar sound and dazzling solo's blew my mind. My buddy Scott had the album Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and once I heard it I got my own copy and played it to death haha.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
Currently I jam with my long time friend Eric Brooks called R.O.A.D. We both play guitars and sing. Some songs he'll pick up the mandolin or drums. He grew up down the street and when I was learning guitar I was helping him learn too. We do acoustic, folk type original music. If you're a fan of Led Zepplin and/or Alice n' Chains you may appreciate our attempts at creativity. I've been in many bands over the years; Gravesight was a death metal band in 2001 of my own design with a few friends. I played bass for several bands including Royal Anguish out of Ocala, FL.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
It would either be Mozart or Rachmaninov, tough call though. Both were amazing musicians/guitar players for their time and 2 of the best composers to ever live. Mozart was known for his prowess on the guitar and I would love the chance to learn something from the master. Rachmaninov had more of a dark melancholy style that I tend to reflect alot as well, not always, I play alot of upbeat energetic songs too but I'm drawn to the ominous sounds of music. Either one would be my choice to jam with.
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
The biggest was around 300 at the Emerson theater with Gravesight. The smallest was just a show at a party with about 20-30 people. Both of those occasions were probably the most memorable, one was a halloween party and we did themed covers. The other was metal festival that went on all day.
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
I can't answer that... no way to choose just one =P. I'd randomly select and probably end up spending most of my time singing to myself anyway, assuming I didn't have my guitar with me. I'd probably find as many ways as possible, with my surroundings, to create music though.
Andy Funk hasn't uploaded any pics yet.
this is me and Eric (R.O.A.D.) android recording lol. really old too, it's changed very little though, just sounds better now =P. we have better recordings in the works.
