I've been writing and performing my own music for seven years, starting when I was only twelve years old. I was really inspired by a lot of different genres, but most significantly artists like Mos Def, Tech N9NE, and a lot of classic rock/punk/metal.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
I'm mostly influenced by the conscious Hip Hop movement in the late 80's and early 90's, particularly groups and artists like Boogie Down Productions/KRS One, Poor Righteous Teachers, Wu-Tang Clan, Pharoahe Monch, BlackStar, GangStarr/Guru and more, but also by the emergence of the more hardcore and lyrical artists of the late 90's in the form of Non Phixion, Jedi Mind Tricks, 7L and Esoteric, and Tech N9NE.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
I do solo work as an emcee, but I'm also part of a group called America's Most Wicked, consisting of myself and my long time friend/collaborator MSiixteen. On a group level, we have an extremely versatile sound and our subject matter changes often. We can bring an aggressive, rhythmic and lyrical onslaught one second and harmonize together for a heartfelt melodic piece the next.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Michael Larsen, an emcee who passed away a few years ago by the name of Eyedea. He was the epitome of what it means to be an artist to me.
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
Dead Prez - Let's Get Free, so I could keep from turning into a violent hermit while stuck there.
