Harp Song (original, early recording) This is an early version of a piece that I wrote and recorded first some five years ago. My very good friend Peter Hanlon, a fine Fando musician, had sent me a video of a harpist that so impressed me - that I wrote Harp Song as a tribute... This initial recording turned out to be a Major Lesson for me...! LoL (Please watch it right through...!) A year or so later, I posted another version on Youtube and Fandalism: http://www.fandalism.com/pimahombre#!/pimahombre/cArH So, apologies for not posting a new video this week - August is my busiest month: Tomoko, a lovely lady who few in from Tokyo, Japan for five days of my guitar workshops, had just left... Then Jan - a ten year old classical guitarist (he's already been studying the guitar for five years !) arrived with his family from Prague in the Czech Republic, for ten days of guitar study with me in Montefrio... At such a young age, he's already a wonderful guitar player, so our workshops are a lot of fun!

Melodia para Jessica (original instrumental) I'd only just finished writing this piece for my latest student, Jessica, when her final guitar workshop with me was due... It was getting late at night when I finally picked up my guitar to record this video... And early Saturday morning, we had to drive her to Granada airport for her flight back to Italy... Which meant I missed my weekly - new video post...! So here it is, a day later... I'd written this little melody for her, because she loved the famous E minor guitar piece ,'Romance' which she wanted to play, but I felt it was too advanced for her novice skills - I hope this simpler melodic piece will provide a stepping stone to that other beautiful piece of music!

Arroyo de Los Molinos, Montefrio, Music by Clive Davies For our glorious and sunny (though very dry) part of Spain, I've written some musical interludes to accompany a video walk down the mountain stream that flows by the gates of our house... Half a kilometer further downstream the stream passes through a steep gorge, collecting more water as it enters the valley of the Roman Mills... Meandering down and down, in a series of waterfalls and sparkling rock pools, it then splits into twin waterfalls, cascading into a beautiful swimming lagoon, surrounded by fig and pomegranate trees!

Today's the Day! (Original song) My latest guitar workshop student, Derek Charnley, is an American roots performer http://www.fandalism.com/diamonddac After Derek finished his course this morning I realised that it's my younger brother's birthday tomorrow - so I spent today writing and recording this song for him... TODAY'S THE DAY! by Clive Davies Getting out of bed before you wake-up - Facing the world anew Moving your dreamy, sleepy head, towards this Rendezvous You tighten your tummy and stick out your tongue Thinking good thoughts that'll keep you Young Then guessing what things this day has sprung - give yourself a clue... And open your eyes - to watch the New Day's sun come shining through You're more than a wannabee, bumblebee, honey bee - counting from one to three You check-out the candles on your cake - before you make your tea! You're quite a looker in your night-time gear, And of course it's your very special day of year You're shaking off the cloak of Yester-Year - Such a Sight to See... Just look in the mirror and SHOUT OUT LOUD - 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!'

Rock Of All Ages (original song) In setting out to write a slightly 'different' twelve bar blues - this turned into more of a cute story song - though having the verse in G with the chorus in E made it a 'bit tricky' to sing..! LoL ROCK OF ALL AGES by Clive Davies Davy had a Banjo and a Guitar too, He learned-up every song that everybody knew His music was his one and only Holy-Devotion, He played with such a force - he was a Music Explosion He was born to Play - just like Night is to Day, So he Played-up all the Songs he could - IN EVERY KIND OF WAY! Play-it-up, Davey, Play-it-up today, It's Your Musical Birthday - so Take it Away Sun's up, Play-it-up, do not Delay, Take-it-up, Make-it-up - Anchor's Away... You're a Musical Express-Ride on a Super Highway! So Play-it-up, Play-it-up.... THIS IS THE WAY! Davy had an instinct to be On the Spot, Wherever Davy went his music SURE WAS HOT Everybody knew he had that Special Sound, They came for Davy's Music from miles around A Super-Dooper-Heavy-Metal-Rock-et Attack He could freeze-up all the traffic at a GRAN PRIX TRACK SOLO: Davy came up with a novel Ground Floor Plan, He knew he could be Famous as Guitar Man Davy was Delighted and his Fans were too - They set him on a Stage down at the LOCAL ZOO Davy Decided, with the monkeys in their cages His Rock Song would become a famous - ROCK OF ALL AGES! Play-it-up, Davey, Play-it-up today, It's Your Musical Birthday - so Take it Away Sun's up, Play-it-up, do not Delay, Take-it-up, Make-it-up - Anchor's Away... The FlatCat (original song) by Clive Davies In the MARSHMALLOW among the TWEEDS, a tiny SELF lay sleeping Covered in CLOVER, nothing he HEEDS, though his mind through a dream softly PEEPING His mind through a dream softly PEEPING Curled in a ball of CANDYFLOSS, three little TWICE lay DREAMING Neither one nor the other one noting the loss - of the fourth little TWICE who was SCHEMING The fourth little TWICE who was SCHEMING Cheshire a FlatCat eating his dinner, FURRING in contented splendour Waiting for something or nothing to GLIMMER - waiting for something to end-or... BEGIN! A CREAM filled the air of the BRASSY wallow - up SELFED the JUMP - in a hurry! A MONSTER came over the FRIDGE to follow - his FOOTSTOMPS in kind of a CURRY His FOOTSTOMPS in kind of a CURRY 'ZOT!' cried the SELF - as he shot with his P UN - the FLATCAT lay sighing in GLASSES 'OH, Toe is ME! Montefrio, my TV interview in the huge round church... Last winter a TV company came to Montefrio, Susie took some videos of myself and their violinist programme presenter - sort of jamming... (took me by surprise as I thought I was going to play solo...!) It was snowing outside and freezing cold - after some takes, they said the echo was too powerful, so they asked us to play in the open entrance hall - which was noisy - and freezing! They never broadcast it! So as it's Christmas, I thought it might make a nice seasonal video...

Hobbits - and pieces! (Original) I wanted a lute sound, so I chose to put a capo on my €100 student guitar, then I experimented and tried this and that... The guitar had not been played for a while, so I enjoyed its peppery timbre, loud voice and nice sustain (watch the bass string vibrate!) It was a first for me, as I never use a capo, and - so, in the warm November Spanish sunshine on our patio, I took it out for an airing yesterday afternoon and delighted in tinkering and producing some nice sounds under a blue sky - with a mountain view and birdsong... (Susie was listening and smiling at me too!)

Buttons and Bows (I wrote some extra verses) I loved the challenge of interpreting this song in a novel way... Using different vocal phrasing, chords and rhythms (I extended the storyline and wrote extra verses...) The project was such a lot of fun - even with the Oops in the video! LoL

Pluckers (original song) As a musical beginner, Folk Clubs gave me a stage and deepened my love for live acoustic music. Many famous musicians - even world class classical players - made their humble start on the stages of Folk Clubs. PLUCKERS, a new song by Clive Davies Just call it a cellar, where a musical fella and gal Can get high on rhythm and song A pleasant arena, the scene, the scenario Where me and all the Muso's get along Pitch-up with the string folk, invoking Dylan, Guthrie and other Hallowed minstrels of the scene Leadbelly, Sonny Terry, traditional and contemporary folk With every variation in between So squeeze in if there's space 'Cos Pluckers is a great place to be If your face fits, wear it Just grin and bare it all and be free Music sweet as sugar or bitter as lemon or lime Freshly plucked, fruity music from the vine Drink-in the atmosphere, we're all as one together here Making magical music all the time So squeeze in if there's space 'Cos Pluckers is a great place to be If your face fits, wear it Just grin and bare it all and be free Any day it's the place to go, so get down and let the music flow At the finest folksy venue around Strum, pluck, whistle or blow, it's the finest plucking show The nicest group of plucker's in the town So squeeze in if there's space 'Cos Pluckers is a great place to be If your face fits, wear it Just grin and bare it all and be free

Sing a Song of Sixpence (Funky) I was asked if I could play a nursery rhyme in a very different way... I muddled the words - but I met the challenge (I think!) LoL See my video of 'Cookie Jar' for the inspiration in the way I 'funkified' the Michael Franks song: https://www.fandalism.com/pimahombre/cltw

Mona Lisa (original song) Our poor hero encounters the girl of his dreams but, as ever, he's tongue-tied and incapable of finding a way to approach her..! (We met our hero before in my Tom Cat Blues!) Mona Lisa a new song by Clive Davies In the corner of my world, I see you. Your plans unfurled about you Though I fail to fathom why Your attitude says I don't care But I know you know I'm aware I read all this from the corner of my eye Slipping sideways through the room The gloom defeats my passage, and I Meet you face to face, eye to eye If looks could kill I'd run a mile My enigmatic Mona Lisa See me looking sideways at her smile Chorus: You're in as many as a thousand places Wearing equally as many faces How often have our pathways crossed But he who hesitates is lost And he despairs to see you walk away Blowing hot and blowing cold Feeling bold I sit beside her Should I ask her, could I even try Like a brightly shining star, so near yet so far See her smile while I just sit and sigh

Pumpkin Houses (Original song) Singer songwriter's can, of course, focus on any scenario... This new song is just me having songwriting fun - taking the idea of genetic modification of plants to a thought -provoking level! LoL Pumpkin Houses Let's talk about pumpkin Pied a Terre's and cucumbersome homes That fulfil the two essentials we need Let's talk about eating where we live and living so cheaply, 'Cos we grow our own houses from seed! Let's talk about eating marrow raw as we nibble out a doorway And have breakfast on a passage or two Let's talk about lunching on the lounge with a little marrow-juana Let's talk about vegetable bedroom stew Chorus: Oh, Oh, eat me a hole in a new house Eat me a place to stay Gonna get me an artichoke architect To digest me accomodation needs - today! Let's talk about vegetarian pests, I never have them as guests 'Cos they eat me out of house and home... I was once a marrow cook, with a narrow outlook Now I'm a broadbeaned gastronome! Chorus: Oh, Oh, eat me a hole in a new house Eat me a place to stay Gonna get me an artichoke architect To digest me accomodation needs - today! My calabash cottage is the avocado Ritz For me to habituate With a full fat tummy and roof above my head I'll settle down - lean upon my beanbag - and vegetate!

Bridal Suite - Loop and Improvise (original) I wrote Bridal Suite long ago. Here, I loop a section of it, and improvise simple chord-related patterns over the top... When I found a melodic riff, a motif, that I enjoyed, I repeated it over and over (too many times, LoL!) It was made during a previous winter - but a recent email from Henrik, one of my wonderful students from last year, made me re-think its value - so here it is!

Sell-By-Date (original song) I was in the garden practising this song that I wrote only yesterday. Susie wanted to make a recording, I told her it wasn't anywhere near finished... But darling Susie smiled, and pressed the record button! Sell-By-Date A new song by Clive Davies There's a brassy-nasty word you should never mumble Ten letters that are so absurd - designed to make you humble It starts with 'R' and rhymes with 'spent' - three syllables so clearly meant - to kick you in your trousered basement - 'till you take a tumble So dial a smile upon your face, and wear your brightest shirt Stand up and define yourself - some bolshiness won't hurt! In your new jeans and shiny shoes, embrace the Monday morning blues Enthuse about the things you do - and re-assert yourself! Sing the song of a self-made man, and play the role with ease Ignore the four and twenty black dogs, barking at your knees And when the door is opened and they try to push you through Never take it lying down - and never say - adieu! Don't accept your Sell-By-Date because you're not so new This Use-by and Discard-by date ain't no use to you Don't sing a song of selling out, for this is what it's all about Just shout out loud - 'The Junkyard...!' - Ain't for the likes of You!

GUM TREE SONG (original) I wrote this yesterday, especially for my darling grandchildren. CHORUS: I DON'T KNOW - IF YOU DON'T KNOW... AND YOU DON'T KNOW IF I DO IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT I DON'T KNOW... THEN I KNOW - YOU KNOW - I DO! 1) SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT A MONKEY, CAN ONLY SING IN ONE KEY HE'LL SING HIS SONG OUT - ALL DAY LONG, WHILE SITTING UP A GUM TREE (repeat chorus) 2) WHILE FISHING IN A STREAM ONE DAY, MY ROD BENT NEARLY DOUBLE A BIG SHARK TOOK MY BAIT AWAY, THEN THANKED ME FOR MY TROUBLE (repeat chorus) 3) COLOURED FEATHERS CAUGHT MY EYE, A FLOCK OF EAGLES IN THE SKY EATING PEANUTS AS THEY FLY, A-TALKING AND A-SQUAWKING (repeat chorus)

Three Pockets (original song) This one is from my songwriting archives, that I've never recorded before - so tonight I made this rather hurried video of it... (poor quality - sorry!) I had posted an impromptu instrumental version some eighteen months ago - here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMkvm... Three Pockets I'm emotionally confused, bemused by your attention Not to mention your aurora, which has all but captured me I have this selfish notion for I need you when I need you And this greed turns me into something I cannot be No cheap promises 'cause I know that I could not keep them They would only trouble my carefree state of mind To like you, love you, lust for you, just adds to my confusion Love may not see clearly, but lust is also blind Which is up, which is down, can't find my way around What's my bearing, where am I, caring for you as I do Yes I don't! No I do! No one can help me Can't be compromised or reconcile myself and you I have three pockets in my suit, where there once were two One for moonbeams, one for dreams, and the new one is for you They are fastened by attention to my goals and my ambition Though also I should mention, by my biased point of view If I could 'still-frame' and keep you in suspended animation Then press 'play' to love you, only when I choose I have three pockets in my suit where there once were two One for moonbeams, one for dreams... And the new one... I'm afraid to use!
