How long have you been playing?
Learned guitar as a freshman in college...1959. Played classical violin and viola from age 7 'til age 20. Took a 40 year break for non-musical career and returned to my old "folkie" roots. Wrote my first song 5 years ago and haven't looked back. Working on a 2nd CD of original tunes as I write this. First CD available on CDBaby
What was the first concert you ever went to?
Many classical music experiences growing up. Played in orchestras and chamber ensembles all the way through school.
First real "folk" concert was freshman college "mixer"...entertainment byJoan Baez and Booker Bradshaw. 1959 in Cambridge MA. Not too long after that I started to learn guitar.

What gear do you use?
New favorite guitar is Collings C10. Old faves, Gibson J45 TV, Martin 000-18GE...
John Hill of Phoenix OR made me a splendid violin.

Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Bach. Mozart. As a chamber player, these two composers are the standard, at least in my experience. I love listening to the Beethoven chamber works but have not played many of them. We had Burl Ives and Woody Guthrie on records. Knew all those songs by heart as a kid.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
Been in many orchestras, quartets, etc. Recently, I have recorded with a studio 'band'...what a kick, to have drums, bass, harmonica, electric guitar, violin, viola, clarinet and flute backing me up! Not a member of an actual band, but the thought has crossed my mind. Is the world ready for a geriatric folk group?
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Bach. Mississippi John Hurt. Lightnin' Hopkins. Ewan MacColl, Odetta, Ronnie Gilbert, Phil Ochs, Willie Nelson, Cyd Smith, Tony Marcus...
All admired musicians. All have something interesting and unique stylistically that I admire...many more I could add...this is off the top of my head.

What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
As a theatre artist, I've performed thousands of times for audiences of from 600 to several millions on the tube. As a musical performer, from 600 down to a couple of dozen...most enjoyable recent performance was @ Cafe Artichoke in Portland OR. Great listening audience. Great songwriter venue!
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
JS Bach 6 Suites for Cello Solo: Matt Haimovitz.
Heard it three or so years ago. Endless possibilities in these brilliant compositions. Can hear them over and over and discover something new each hearing. Enjoy Matt Haimovitz. Great energy and joy in his playing.
