I've been singing since I was a little kid. Took lessons from approx 14 years of age.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
The first concert I ever went to was The Phantom Of The Opera with my mum. I was about 6. I sang along with Marina Prior which the people sitting next to me weren't particularly pleased about. It's also where I first learned that I hate jaffas. Ugh.
What gear do you use?
I have a Roland electronic piano, a fender acoustic guitar, Apogee mixer, Logic Pro studio and AKG 247 mic. I think I like my piano best.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
A lot of music theatre, from my parents - mainly classical music (my Mum was a music teacher), and the few albums they had: Cat Stevens Greatest Hits, The Beatles Greatest Hits and Abba. The first band I was ever really obsessed with was Savage Garden...until I realised that I'd need to change sex to be with Darren Hayes!
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
I was the lead singer for our school jazz band back in highschool and leads or supports for a number of local musicals. I always really wanted a band to do originals with. I won a battle of the bands at my school with my little brother...but he was so lazy I just couldn't get him to focus enough to work with him.
Throughout uni I worked on my originals and worked with a few people after uni. My first proper "band" was formed last year with my partner Simon - its called "Binary Heart" - you can see our stuff at www.binaryheart.net
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
I think I'd be really nervous jamming with anyone huge - probably because I don't feel entirely confident in my talents. But putting that aside - maybe someone like John Mayer?
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
Audience of 1000 - I sang at Miss World Australia. Have done a few 1000+ but they were at school so I don't count them!
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
Jed Whedon and the Willing. A psychic I spoke to on the phone once heard my stuff and said I should look them up. I have been obsessed ever since. It's just one of those albums that you can listen to over and over with still remaining so chilled and beautiful.
