How long have you been playing?
Since that feller with the crude Harley Davidson tattoos on both arms got out of prison and showed a 12 year old me how to play the solo to Blue Eyes Cryin' In The Rain.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
Country legend, Tom T. Hall, at the Texas Prison Rodeo (Huntsville, Texas), 1983.
What's memorable about it?
He fu*kin' played SNEAKY SNAKE and I LIKE BEER back to back!

What gear do you use?
Fernandez Native
Fender TC-90 Telecaster Thinline
My primary live rig is a 1993 Carvin X-100B half stack.
For the homestead there's a lovely VOX AC4TV.
... and should I feel like getting a freaky Ralph Macchio on, I'll pull out a Pignose.
There's an early 70's Takimine around here somewhere...
Oh yeah, I also give a loving home to an early 70's, stripped down Gretsch trap kit.

What are you looking for from Fandalism?
Jimmy Hoffa.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
The Beatles.

If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
The great Greg Main - because the man is a fu*kin' LEGEND in my book!
Dex Romweber - I opened for Flat Duo Jets in 1997, and have had a relentless love affair with his brand of roots-retro-rock-a-billy ever since! You are hard pressed to find anything more genuine and pure than the music he beats out of that battered Silvertone!
David Wayne Seymour (Davey Demon) - I keep bringing it up and he keeps ignoring it... He'll bait me along for a while til we'll make arrangements... then I'll go to jail.
It never fails.
A ratbastard "Nursing Home Tour 2012-2013" is also in order.
It could be worth millions in cash and prizes to conjure up Jan and Shengar in a studio/ adult book store setting, take some Geritol, and shake our old, fat, wrinkled p'tootys one more time in the name of all that is depraved and unholy...
Lastly, I'd give up a pretty, shiny buffalo nickel (and this here $5000 vacation coupon book) to once again find myself in the same neighborhood with my old pal,, Bob Harrell.
One could easily find themselves throwing in the towel having to sift through an ocean of bland, uninspired mediocrity... having to chew the fat with someone you didn't wanna meet in the first place; who won't shut the Hell up about an idea they have for a concept album that builds around a precision-executed, potential Nobel Prize winning guitar solo in the Dorian mode. Pffffffttttt!
I trust that you have found my wish list to be reasonable... selfish, but reasonable.

What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
Wait just a minute!
What if the answer to this were the same for both questions?
What if the answer to this were the same for both questions?
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
If I were stuck on a desert island and had thought to bring a single album with me, then please rest assured that you'll find one heavy assed crate of vinyl not far away from my bottled water and inflatable raft.
Any record from Les Baxter or Martin Denny will comfort me for the duration of this unfortunate scenario.
Now, let's talk about getting me a frosty adult beverage and topping it with one of them little tropical umbrellas!

Vintage archival media presentation of "Fear Of Carl," by Reverend Jim.
Recorded at The Animal House in Magnolia, Texas - early 1994.
The introduction audio is an edit of INTRO, from The Ratbastard 3 - Song Demo, originally released in September 1995.
This is one of two recently discovered live versions of this tune.
Edited and remastered by Wes Dodson at Red Clown Crematorium in Hockley, Texas - August 2010.
YRJ2K?
I have been bouncing around the idea for a while now about doing something called RJ2K. This spawned from a tape that I uncovered here recently... of a long lost, forgotten song we did some five years back. This was the period right after Cheesy Drip. It was known to the folks of this region as the fierce, the terrible... Reverend Jim. Which later transcended into Gravy Day for a short time before it mutated into BZ, and BZ begat... well, you know the rest of the story. ANYWAY, the whole concept behind Reverend Jim was that we'd (we being: myself, Terry Aden, Milton Rush, Dorian Lugo, & Stan Baker) write a song and switch instruments and write another and so on... until each tune kinda had a different feel, but a good upbeat kind of thing. The songs were uhmmm...I don't wanna say happy...They were party tunes, I guess you'd say. Good mood kind of tunes. Rockers. We must've wrote a good dozen or so tunes before I started turning my attention to writing BZ. Some of the cream of Reverend Jim wound up on BZ, while others simply disappeared. I later dug up all my lyrics (which I keep track of like a pack rat) and found everything we wrote back in them days. Sad thing was, not all the tunes made it to tape and now all we have are the lyrics. We were together and rehearsed for a short time and everything sorta took a new direction and dispersed. Evolved. I can't begin to imagine how many tunes I've wrote since then. So I have no way of recanting exact arrangements, solos, etc... There's no way. Forget it. Reverend Jim tunes that made it to BZ were 'Beer For Breakfast' (this lineup was- me: guitar & vox, Terry: bass, and Stan Baker: drums) and 'Texas Hippie' (Terry on the throat, Stan on the skins, me doing the excellent guitar parts, Dorian on bass, and Milton, Terry, and myself doing back up). Other tunes that we did that never made it to the top of the charts were the likes of 'Closet Flamer', 'Get Neked', 'Baby Cut Off My Penis', 'In The Bathroom', as well as 'Vidor' starting the whole thing off. Then there's tune that I came across here a couple of weeks back. It's called 'Fear Of Carl (The La-La Song)'. This was Terry sangin', me on bass, Dorian on guitar, Stan on drums, and EVERYONE under the sun on backup. This was a great tune that never got off the ground. Memorable as all get out. Catchy... I know all of this is probably lots more than you care to know, but it illustrates how we swapped out to make things sound different. And this brings us up to current day and my reason for bringing this up to you. Over a couple of fishing trips I talked about doing a spoof on the Y2K thing and writing some new tunes for the fifth anniversary. This perhaps being a good reason for bringing 'Fear Of Carl' into the present with a different lineup. Maybe not. It's an idea. A start. RJ2K. I have already put together a couple of logos (one of which I'm sending you now) and the other is being turned into a decal as I write this. I even have an idea for a photo op that I am DYING to use. I am not so much interested in swapping instruments, as I am content playing bass at the moment. Thing is, I'm not going to get this off the ground by myself. I am not very willing to play with most of the musicians in the area to top that off. You were saying something to me about starting up something serious (enough) and I thought I'd share this idea with you. That's what all of this pig crap is about. We could stick to the same lineup and have TA on vocals. That would take the vocal stress off of me. We've got some of the bases covered to get this thing started, so I'd like to hear your input on the matter. Or if maybe you have suggestions, ideas, or questions. I haven't formally brought it up to Milton, but I know that he's heard Terry talking about it. Give it some thought and lemme know your thoughts...
shits & giggles,
WES

The first significant musical effort of Texas unknown Wes Dodson, was a collection of tunes recorded on a 4 track, with a drum machine May-June 1991.
Those tunes were the building blocks, along, with the participation of members from disbanded Houston metal act, KNIGHTMARE (Cheryl Smolenski, David James), the unit would become PARAGON for a few short weeks during the summer of 1991.
Wes' life fell apart outside of the band, so he let the band go down the toilet with it. He hasn't heard a peep out of any of the people in this video in 20 years.
This video is the only collective evidence of that project (other than the 4 track demo), and was recorded July 1991 at Dave's house in Katy, Texas.
