I started playing harmonica a fair amount when I was a taxi driver in Madison, WI. when I was in my twenties. It gave me something to do while waiting for the next call.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
I saw Simon & Garfunkel in 1967 at a movie theater in Madison, WI. Two dudes on stage with only an acoustic guitar and their voices.
What gear do you use?
I like the Hohner Pro Harp and Blues Harp.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Bob Dylan. One dude with a guitar, harmonica, and song writing skills.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
Long time ago I played with a hometown band. I was sitting in a bar one night and a guitarist from the band was playing acoustic guitar and singing something by Dylan. I had a harp in my pocket. I started to play along while sitting at the bar. Next thing I knew he asked me to join him on stage, then sit in with his band. They did 60s rock and folk and a bit of country and blues.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Taj Mahal because he is about the best blues singer I've ever heard.
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
Dancing the Blues by Taj Mahal. It doesn't get any better.
