Jon Eric has been playing professionally since the age of 9 on banjo, brought up on traditional bluegrass in Fredericksburg, VA.
What gear do you use?
Stelling Bellflower Arch-top banjo (acoustic w/ Rare Earth pick-up), Nechville Electric meteor banjo, Acoustic guitar with pick up, Dobro, Various electronic and keyboard gear & effects units with rack mount and/or pedal board capabilities. Jon Eric feels his favorite is whatever is being played at the time.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Bill Monroe, Mark Newton, Larry Stevenson, Earl Scruggs, Country Gentleman, Seldom Scene. Most of the main 2nd or 3rd "generation" bluegrass giants in traditional bluegrass. AFTER laying the banjo down at age 13, I switched into more danceable and main stream genres. Following and studying more production value of the likes of Quincy Jones, David Foster, William Orbit & Prince.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
To keep costs down and making it affordable for those festivals to widen their budget, Jon Eric performs solo building songs up from the ground up. Adding various instruments and vocals to texture an aural vibe unlike anything out there today.
