I began at the age of six, studying throughout my school years, military years, and continuing education at the Univ. of Iowa, where I both studied and taught until graduation. I've toured in over 40 countries during my professional career.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
Not first, but most memorable, was The BeaTles, when they played Dodger Stadium, in Los Angeles, in 1966.
What gear do you use?
Endorsed by both DDrum and Zildjian, I have a collection of drums and drums too numerous to mention, some going back before the Civil War.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Probably The BeaTles and BB King; I loved the simplicity of both Ringo and Sam Lay, and how they carried the band with their powerful, yet simple grooves.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
Currently in Baby Blues & the No Attitude Band, winner of "Best Local Band Nashville 2011", and BlueStone, our new Florida project. History of touring and recording with major artists too numerous to mention.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Tower of Power; they've always just killed me with their powerful horn section. I always try to have horns in our bands, ever since I first toured Europe with a 21 piece band, with full horn sections.
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
Over 150,000 in Europe, and 100,000 in US. Most memorable would be our first performance as Baby Blues, with my wife, Leslie, as lead vocalist, 20 years ago.
