I went to my very first concert at a stadium in Barreiro in a event called Febre de Sabado de Manhã, to see some portuguese rock bands such as UHF, GNR, Taxi, Rui Veloso and some others. It was in 1981. I went there with some friends and my older brother and it was wonderful to feel all the energy..
What gear do you use?
I have 4 basses (Fender, Ibanez, Peavey and Aria), Amp. Tube Works 300 W stack, and some more general stuff.. My Favorite is the Fender Precision Special model, my favorite Bass guitar.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Many bass players such as Roger Glover, Glenn Hugges, Geezer Butler, Neil Murray, Phil Lynnot, John Entwistle, Chris Squire, but the main influence was Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. I was very influenced by some other musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Angus Young, Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley (of KISS), Frank Zappa, Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Bowie, AC/DC and many others..
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
Yes, I'm with IBERIA, the band I helped to found in 1987. I was part of some bands as Da Vinci, EDP, and some cover bands as X-Stand and Xatos..
I play Hard Rock/Classic Rock (always in the Metal music area) and I grow up listening to music with some friends, learn to play togheter and started the band.. I played many shows since then, of course..
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
I like to play with Iron Maiden, because i'm a big fan and I know all the songs, lol.. I would like to play with Led Leppelin, Kiss, AC/DC and some others, because it gives me great pleasure to listen to them since I was a kid and i guess it's anyone's dream to play with such great musicians and bands..
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
I played to 20.000 people in Azores, with Da Vinci in 1991. But I also played to about 15 people in a bar called Johhny Guitar in Lisbon, with Iberia in 1994 (there was any anouce of the gig and the few who went there didn't know we were going to play and step by just for some beers, lol). The most memorable concerts I gave were that with Da Vinci, a gig with Iberia in the Lisbon Coliseum in 1989 and some other gigs recently with the new lineup in Iberia: Baixa da Banheira at 2011 was awesome, and the return concert in 2009 on In Live Café, Moita, too.. During the years I gave many great shows all around, with many good memories..
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
"Absolutely Live" by The Doors. Because it give me chills even today when I ear it.. it was a big influence in me during my adolescence, and helped me growing up as a musician and a human being..
