How long have you been playing?
I was 14 when I started playing harmonica and quickly got into guitar when a friend taught me how to play slide with a butterknife in open tuning. I love the sound of slide guitar whether it's bottleneck, a dobro, Weissenborn, lap steel, Pedal Steel or whatever
What was the first concert you ever went to?
One of the first Rock concerts I saw was Jimi Hendrix with Sly and The Family Stone opening for him when I was 16. The whole event was remarkable. Besides being the LOUDEST experience of my life, Jimi was just magical.
What gear do you use?
I use a range of acoustic guitars, electrics, lapsteels and slide guitars. On solo gigs I play a Santa Cruz VS protoype and occasionally a Lazy River Weissenborn-style Hawaiian guitar. With bands it varies. Lately for electric guitar it's been a Fender Nocaster reissue through a brownface Fender Tremolux in a 2x10 Super box...but it will change
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
All sorts of people. I listened to a lot of folk music, blues, R&B and country music, but I listen to a lot of other music as well; including jazz, what is now called world music, Mexican music..anything that sounds good.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
I've played in bands for years. Currently I play solo gigs mostly. I have players available for band gigs and am looking for touring opportunities to work more in that format.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Living-Ry Cooder. He knows more about American music(and music from a lot of other places too) than anyone I know and I could learn a lot from him.
Dead- John Lennon. He was a great songwriter and had a really open mind. Seems like he would be fun to jam with.

What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
Denver. 4000 people. Most memorable one? They're all memorable- probably hasn't happened yet..
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
The first Paul Butterfield album. I first heard it at boarding school. Why? Because it's a great album.
