Been playing since 4th grade. Became a musician because it is in my DNA...It is like breathing.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
Around 1974...Stan Kenton. My parents took me and I pouted and whined the whole way to the concert. Once I was there, it was incredible! I had never heard a band like that before. The rhythm section was amazing.
What gear do you use?
I have a collection of kits ranging from a 1946 4-piece blue swirl Sonor to 2010 red velvet DW. Depends on the gig.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Buddy Rich. I was fortunate enough to see him three times and spent time with him backstage a couple of times. He was very gracious and encouraging. His style was incredible.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
Yes...Jarana - Latin / Various jazz groups / Studio work / Church / Rock / Blues / Country / Been in several over the years in the midwest and west coast. I have had the privilege to play with some incredible musicians over the years and have made some wonderful friendships from those experiences.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Tower of Power, Maceo Parker, Prince, James Taylor, Santana, Chase, Steve Gadd, Earth, Wind and Fire...because of the killer rhythm sections they always have had.
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
Guessing 20,000 at the Chicago Blues Festival. 5 at a jazz gig in the basement of a bar. Too many to list.
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
Prince - One Night Alive. Heard it a couple of years ago. The diversity of the recording
