Makin' Love In The Gulf of Mexico - An original about making whoopie in the water!

Down By Edwards School - Written after an 8 hour solo gig by the lake in Conroe, Texas and the drive home to Galveston. I had blisters on 2 fingers. Got $100 tip after $100 tip to keep playing so it never entered my mind to stop.

Rhett Butler Where Are You? - Jean Williams at ATV Music Group saved this title till she found someone she thought would write it right. I was the lucky guy. This is the original way I wrote it. it was demoed as a waltz with Kathie Mattea doing the vocals (Just before she got her deal). I heard Wynonna in my head as I was writing it. What do you think? jd

The Gulf Is Crying - On April 20, 2010 the "Deep Horizon" oil spill disaster began devastating the Gulf Of Mexico. The Louisiana/Mississippi Gulf Coast was changed for decades to come, if not forever. The Gulf is indeed still crying. The lives of those who earned their livelihood from the Gulf were changed overnight.

Always - This is a love song written for my wife. The original title was "Lover's Moon". I felt "Always" better describes the heart felt lyric. A Lightfoot feel weaves in and out of the vocal. The wonderful photos are by Elena Shumilova, a Russian mom with an amazing gift.

Our American Heritage - I lost the lyric over the years and could only remember bits and pieces. I re-wrote the verses and recorded it. I am very pro-Native American/American Indian. When we played Cowboys and Indians when I was young, I was always an Indian. My mom's mom was full blood and her dad half breed.Taken along with my father Cajun/Heinz 57 bloodline, I am quite the blended human. I believe I fell instantly in love with my wife because she looks like an Indian Princess.

Shaman’s Song - On Mount Rushmore are 2 white men who owned slaves, one white man who did the right thing and proclaimed their emancipation and was murdered, and one white man whose most famous act was charging up a hill. This is a song about a Native American from Oklahoma who got drunk and ended up on the roof of a bar on the Strand in Galveston. It's a semi-true story of a man who did not want to fly like an eagle. Injustice can be blind too. Our country is governed by false, soulless prophets. The wiping out of American Indians (Columbus made a mistake!) was genocide. Our dark past

Hold Me - Written in 1980 at the Sound Lab Studio in Nashville in the lobby. The producer came out of the session and told me he was was going to have time for one more song at the end of his session if I could write something in the next hour since he already had the pickers. He was recording the Overstreet Sisters from Florida. I wrote this. I added my vocals years later. Dedicated to my wife.

This Is No Virgin Heart (Original Demo) - In 1994 after I could not play guitar because of loss of feeling in my left hand, I spent close to a month writing this original and recording it with keyboard. I had to play the right hand part then come back and play the left hand part with my right hand. I only wrote 5 songs in my life with the keys. I went for an Allman Brothers sound. All parts by me/jd.

My Heart Won't Let You Go - Written in 1980 after my move to Nashville from Texas. As a result of my first marriage (Now married for the 4th time) I am the proud father of my beautiful daughter. I missed her so much. When the one you love who said they would love you forever decides forever is over, you love on whether you want to, or not. Love is the answer. Always take a chance on love. Without it life can be so cold and lonely. At any price love is a bargain.

Somebody Hold Me (Tonight) - Written in 1980 in Nashville. My copy of the studio demo was washed out to see by Hurricane Ike in 2008. My allergies showed up in my voice in a few places. Just love spring time. LOL. I was very alone and lonely when I wrote this but like Kenny Rogers sang in his song, "Love Will Bring You Around". I heard Even Stevens write the song at the Sound Lab. Semper Fi - I deleted the video I posted and completely re-did it. This is dedicated to all who served our country in all branches of service. If we had the quality of those who serve in our legislators, we would be better off. From the Korean War (It was a WAR) on, politicians set rules that kept our military from decisive victory. The majority of these suits seem more interested in increasing personal wealth. Vets should have the same medical coverage as legislators.

We've Got Tonight (Cover) - My cover of the Bob Seger classic recorded LIVE at the Holiday Inn Seawall by Dennis Compton. I pulled the microphone too far away to go for the hîgh notes. LOL. Dedicated to the beautiful woman I married in March 2008.

Yellow Rose - Inspired by a comment a friend made at a Galveston gig about "Up on the mainland tonight." I wrote a verse in my car after I packed my gear and finished writing and recording it when I got home. Ahhhh, the Yellow Rose of Texas!

Tonight You're Mine - A song of infidelity. Inspired by 2 ex- wives and an ex-girl friend. I never have cheated on anyone. Maybe no one found me attractive when I was in a relationship or was it because I wasn't looking for anyone else. In the song he is tired of being #2 but he takes what he can get. Tuning: Open D

Running On Faith (Cover) - Recorded LIVE at the Holiday Inn Seawall in Galveston. 1st time to sing it. My bro', Dennis, recorded it. I had no idea what I'd do at the end till I got there. I did a lot of Cocker at my gigs so I crossed my fīngers and cut loose.

Profiled: Wrong Side Of The Street [Instrumental] - Vocal version soon. This was inspired by Prīnce's Super Bowl halftime show. The color of someone's skin should not be lawful reason to oppress. Why are almost all of the victims of justified by law shootings people of color?
