I was around 15 when I first started playing bass guitar, I switched over to drums and bass soon after. I broke my leg and couldn't skateboard anymore so I switched over to playing music full time.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
I cant remember the year but it was right when hardcore and punk started getting popular. I was with all my skater buddies at the time. I remember everyone who played, even the opening acts. It was actually one of the most intense shows of my life other than my last show with Radio Moscow, that was most intense. Ask me about it if you want to know the whole story ;) I remember it was in Des Moines at Toad Holler when it was a venue. Thrice played, My Chemical Romance, Story Of The Year, and The Used headlined and came out onstage with a big inflated dick and tits I think. It was around the time when they were all starting to get recognized. It was titties. I was possibly the youngest person at the show.
What gear do you use?
I've been using vintage gear lately. Especially with drums. I use a 1970's White Sparkle Ludwig Kit. Its got some huge sounds to it. For guitar stuff I play whatever feels good. Tube amps have the best warm tones I can find, they have to have a reverb tank in them. If not you at least need a reverb unit whether its Tube or Solid State. I've heard some really good Fender Solid State Reverb Units. I love bends and trills and arppegio's so I like a looser string tension and a lot of sustain. I like old Gibsons. I love fuzz pedals, Wah Wah pedals, Dan Echo Pedals, and Tube Screamers. Delay can be great too.
What are you looking for from Fandalism?
I like to watch covers of my favorite songs. I really enjoy listening to what other people do on here. There is so much of a variety of music styles on here, it's really great.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
I have so many influences. This question almost drives me crazy, but to be honest... Captain Beyond, and Peter Green's fleetwood Mac are a huge inspiration to me.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
I've been in at least 4 or 5 bands. Either we are from the same town or we are family. I try to play shows as often as I can. I've been on the road now for at least 3 or 4 years. I was touring with Radio Moscow as the drummer but recently me and the bass player "my brother Zack Anderson" left Radio Moscow to start our new band Blues Pills.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
All those late 60's and early 70's dudes man. They knew the secret to the soul.
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
I think my biggest show was in Portugal at Milhoes De Festa with Radio Moscow. We headlined the fest. By the time we played their was probably just around 3,000 people jammin out with us. The smallest show I've played was also with Radio Moscow. There could have been maybe 3 or 4 people max.
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
The Scared Mushroom. I like it because its the greatest fucking album ever recorded in my opinion, and no matter if I was feeling down or alone, that album would be bring me to life again:)
